Rule 5Prevention is always better than a cure. Prepare all the things you probably need for survival

In the Wilderness

If you’re stuck on a desert island and you haven’t prepared, you’re doomed. To prepare, consider this list:

• Multi-tool knife (could be a dagger if you can’t afford one)

• Fishing line

• Matches/lighter/magnifying glass (may be useless if the weather is too damp)

• Signal devices (mobile phone/ satellite radio; better be waterproof)

• Flashlight

• First-aid kit

• Trekking poles (for if you encounter snowy terrain)

These tools, each with different uses, are necessary for survival. If you can’t afford them, it will be more difficult to survive. Also, never forget to put extra water in your bag!

In School

You’ll need the following to survive in school:

• Pencils and pens (bring extras)

• Notebooks

• Textbooks

• Protractor and ruler (there are versions that combine the two)

• Rubber (or eraser)

• Compass

• Calculator

• Any subject-specific requirements (e.g. basketball for PE¹, certain instruments for Music, etc)

Just like in the wilderness, without these tools, you’re just as good as dead. But there’s always a chance that you can survive if the kid sitting next to you is kind enough to lend you his or her supplies. But if you are the one doing the lending, be careful because that’s how your entire school supplies stock can disappear mysteriously throughout the week.
