Nello had a secret that only Patrasche knew about.

There was an empty hut near his home.

In this hut, Nello had drawn many sketches. Nello couldn’t buy any colors but he found some charcoal and chalk, and some rough paper.

He could draw anything in black and white and still make it look beautiful.1
