Jesus went from village to town, telling the people how God wanted them to live.1
Many people were impressed by Jesus’ words.
Among them, Jesus chose twelve young men.
They decided to give up their daily work and follow Jesus.
They called themselves the “apostles.”
These twelve men lived with Jesus, ate with him, and helped him teach the people.
One Sunday, Jesus and the apostles went for supper to the house of Simon Peter’s mother-in-law.
When they arrived, the old woman was sick in bed with a fever.2
Jesus took her hand and held it for a moment.
Then the woman got up out of bed.
Her fever was gone!
Smiling, she went to fix dinner for the men.

Jesus Calms a Storm

When Jesus came to the Sea of Galilee, there were many people who wanted to hear him.
So he told his apostles to take a boat and row him a little way into the lake.1
From there, he could speak to all the people on the shore.

Evening came, and Jesus ended his teaching.
People were still around him, and there was no time for him to rest.
Jesus said to his apostles, “Let us cross over to the other side of the lake so that we can be alone.”2
While they were rowing, he fell asleep in the rear of the boat.
Soon, it became very dark.
When they were halfway across, a storm rose up.
The wind blew strongly, and the waves rose like mountains.
The apostles were afraid the boat would turn over.3
