Rule 3The “later” can wait, the “upcoming” must be finished first

In the Wilderness

When you’re on a desert island, the next thing you should think of isn’t how you’re going to get home, but instead ‘what should I do now to survive so that I will be able to return home later?’ Put your questions aside, and start acting. Every future goal is achieved by starting with the smallest action. If you don’t stop thinking and start acting, you won’t be able to return home.

In School

This is when your time management skills kick in. You’ll need to organize what you should do first, usually in a list of decreasing importance and time needed. For example, you may have a really big contest in two months, but the thing is, you have a test tomorrow. Although the test is not as important as the contest, it is coming up first and you need to start studying for it since you still have time to practice for the contest afterward. But if the contest is just about as close as the test, you can abandon it (the test I mean). Conclusion: prioritize matters based on time, then importance.
